Мethodological approaches to assessment of the sustainability of agricultural land use

ANNOTATION

It is established that efficient functioning of the model of land management for sustainable use of agricultural land is impossible without a comprehensive presentation of the situation at the level of sustainability of agricultural land use referring to definite indicators. Therefore, an initial stage of the model expects analysis of the current coditions and level of the studied object. Thus, the author of the work proposes a methodology for sustainability assessment for adequate reflection and understanding of its level while employing agricultural land in Ukraine, as well as to compare its indicators in the regional context. It is proved that assessment of such complex phenomenon as the consistency of agricultural land use necessitates use of an integral indicator, which enables comprehensive consideration of the aggregate of various criteria and indicators. The integrated sustainability index of agricultural land use involves use of a hierarchical structure, groups of criteria within the target vectors, and indicators within these criteria. The indicators include absolute indicators, characterizing conditions of land use in a particular period, as well as relative dynamic indicators, which are compared to the basic period. In order to compare the different-quality and the world-wide indicators, it is proposed to interpret their values by normalization, i.e. to carry out transition from absolute values to normalized ones. Basing on the developed methodological approach, the work supplies assessment of the level of sustainability of agricultural land use in the regions of Ukraine. The following levels of the corresponding criterion are distinguished, e.g. crisis, critical, low, and satisfactory. It is noted that, among the regions of Ukraine, the highest level of sustainability of agricultural land use is demonstrated by Transcarpathian region (final rating 0.80). A little lower level of sustainability is particular for the city of Kiev (0.77), Ivano-Frankivsk (0.76) and Zhytomyr (0.76) regions. However, most Ukrainian regions have a low level of sustainability of agricultural land use.
