The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the conditions of tourism and recreation business in Ukraine

ANNOTATION

In 2020, one of the main factors influencing economic processes was the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourist resorts and health facilities (camps, sanatoriums, boarding houses, health complexes have been the most affected by the quarantine restrictions, and some of them have almost completely stopped their activities. In the conditions of the global pandemic and the need to overcome its consequences, there it is necessary to identify the areas that may be favourable for development of tourism and recreation business in Ukraine in the context of the coronavirus crisis. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the conditions of tourism and recreation business in Ukraine is revealed. The existing problems of development of tourism and recreation business, caused by negative influence of the quarantine restrictions, are investigated. Special emphasis is made on the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic for the tourism industry and its adaptation to new realities. The essence of the consequences of the pandemic, which have not only obvious negative effects on tourism, but also unexpected new opportunities, is described. The factors that hinder development of tourism and recreation business in Ukraine are outlined. Attention is focused on research and development of the ways to overcome the crisis for tourism and recreation businesses and achieve sustainable operation. One of the promising ways out of the crisis for domestic tourism is to develop recreational tourism, which is a powerful source of demand and therefore attractive for investment, securing the required level of income. This area has great potential and ample opportunities for investors. Under proper development, medical tourism can become an independent branch of the tourism market, capable of bringing a high level of income.
