ANNOTATION

Global challenges highlight the urgent need for replacing the outdated traditional economic model with a new sustainable resource-efficient model – the circular economy. This article touches upon the necessity of Ukraine’s transition to a circular economy model in order to ensure the long-term sustainable development of the state.

Closed-loop economy provides accurate applied answers to how exactly the use of natural resources can be slowed down without perturbating the inviolable existence of society. Recycling of resources is not the only principle that governs the circular economy. The important rule is to preserve the value of the product and the raw material from which it was made, as well as to ensure theirhighest presence within the production cycle. Companies that withdraw defective products from merchants and recycle them for further remarketing at a lower cost are a good exampleof this. Such model is much more acceptable than the model wheredefective products are hastly sent for processing, since in that case a new cost for goods has to be built up from scratch. It is also important to keep in mind that recycling also pressuposes utilization of significant amount of resources, which in fact constitutes the production process.

Currently, the environmental problems have led to a gradual transition from the traditional linear economic model to a more environmentally friendly circular economy. Increasing of waste volumes and pollution can lead to increased environmental hazards and changes in people's wealth and well-being. There is a strong need fortransition to a circular economy. The circular economy constitutes an industrial system that is intended to be restorative. The idea is that instead of throwing away resources, the population should give them second life. This article looks into the main features and aspects of the circular economic model, as well as the area of circular productionimplementation.
