ANNOTATION

The concept of foreign economic activity is quite multifaceted. The criterion of economic effectiveness is not the same for different levels of foreign economic activity. Each level of evaluation is characterized by its type of economic interests and its of effectiveness criterion. Therefore, the purpose of our study is to analyze the environment, the effectiveness of foreign economic activity in Lviv region according to various criteria and to develop a mechanism to intensify foreign economic activity in the context of the European integration. At the present stage, the most important types of foreign economic activity of Lviv region are export (import) of goods and services, as well as attraction of foreign investment to modernize production, strengthen export potential and competitive position at the world commodity markets. The authors of the research analyzed the above-mentioned types of foreign economic activity run by the business entities in Lviv region at certain time intervals. During the period 2000-2020, the number of foreign trade entities in Lviv region that exported and imported goods tended to increase. The importers’ activities were more situational and focused on the needs of short-term demand for certain products, whereas exporters, for obvious reasons, were more "inert". That was due to the longer time needed to reorient the production of certain goods. In 2010-2020, the number of those engaged in the foreign trade in services in Lviv region demonstrated a tendency to a more gradual increase in their number of both categories. It is necessary to point out a positive side of the process, i.e. in general, the number of service exporters exceeded the number of importers. The current investment situation in Lviv region is characterized by a lack of sufficient investment due to the unfavorable investment climate in the country. However, with the beginning of the russia invasion to Ukraine, the role and importance of Lviv region in the field of foreign economic activity of our country is inevitably increasing. First, it is due to the relocation of a share of business entities from the temporarily occupied and adjacent territories to our region, and second, because of more intensive activities of the local producers of goods and service providers as a result of unprecedented consolidation of our society around the idea of protection and development of independent Ukraine free from the russian horde. Today we can definitely say that today the idea is recognized at all levels of the state power, and it is the key to the dynamic development of the economy of Lviv region in the near future.
