The role and priorities of rural green tourism in the social and economic development of rural areas

ANNOTATION

The article presents findings of the study on the role, trends and problems of rural green tourism development in Ukraine. The connection of this type of tourism with the social and economic development of rural areas is shown. The development of rural green tourism contributes to restoration and improvement of rural infrastructure, growth of population employment, as well as rises revenues to state and local budgets. Focus on the diversification of the rural economy means that business becomes an effective means of promoting development of the rural economy on the basis of sustainability and long-term sustainability. On the basis of generalizations of the basic scientific concepts of the research issues, the authors specify essence of the concept of rural green tourism that enables substantiating its difference from agrotourism and ecological tourism. Conceptual comprehension of rural green tourism is defined as an activity aimed at providing accommodation, food, leisure, recreation and health of the population in rural areas, without significant anthropogenic impact on the environment. The necessity of state stimulation and support of rural green tourism entities on the basis of strategic planning and forecasting tools, inclusion of rural green tourism in stimulating development programs of preferential lending and taxation, development of marketing communication strategies in rural tourism, adaptation of the regulatory framework, regulating the field of rural green tourism to the standards adopted in Europe and promoting the implementation of investment projects for development of rural green tourism. Based on the SWOT-analysis of opportunities and needs for the development of rural green tourism in Ukraine, its strengths and weaknesses have been identified, as well as possible ways of development and threats to the development of rural green tourism have been assessed. It is recommended to introduce the ecosystem approach to implementation of the programs of social and economic development of the regions and to develop directions for improving the environmental safety of tourism in rural areas.
